LIVE MUSIC UPDATE: A Stillwater enthusiast’s fail-proof guide to NMF3

The 3rd annual Norman Music Festival boasts roughly 170 bands and several Stillwater artists performing in downtown Norman on Saturday and Sunday.

Last year, 25,000 people swarmed the streets of Norman for a day of live music and the festival doubled its length this year for no extra price (it’s still free).

In hopes everyone from Stillwater has a safe voyage, here’s a fail-proof schedule for the festival.

  • 3:20 p.m. Copperheads @ Guestroom Records

The zombie off-spring of The Ramones. All the noise without any of the movement.

    • 5:10 p.m. The Boom Bang @ Guestroom Records

Expect more fireworks than the Fourth of July and that’s not a metaphor. Wear safety goggles to this show.

    • 10:15 p.m. The Burning Hotels @ Blackwatch Studios

Pop rock at it’s best. Glad to see one of my DFest highlights back in Oklahoma.

    • 11 p.m. Colourmusic @ Opolis

The best chance to catch a band from Stillwater destroying the Norman Music Festival in the loudest and most gnarly way possible.

    • 12 p.m. Octopus Project @ Opolis

Psychedelic Austin natives will weave a web of unforgettable synth beats and noise. Wear plenty of tie-dye.

    • 12:50 p.m. Mayola @ Main Stage

It’s an early show, but this set will rattle buildings all the way to Bricktown.

    • 2:30 p.m. Jabee @ Main Stage

The face of hip hop in Oklahoma is sure to please the masses.

    • 3:30 p.m. Brother Bear @ Opolis

Stillwater’s weirdest sounding band, but luckily it’s a good thing

    • 4 p.m. The Rum Fellows @ Bill and Dees Stage

They dress like pirates and sing pirate songs. I’m serious.

    • 4:45 p.m. OK Sweetheart @ Blackwatch Studios Stage

The most beautiful voice in this festival. Hands down.

    • 5 p.m. Those Darlins  @ Jagermeister Stage

The least beautiful voices at the festival. But this garage trio is my pick of the festival.

    • 5:30 p.m. DEERPEOPLE @ Opolis

The most improved and hardest working band in Oklahoma. Happy to know the band is from Stillwater.

    • 6 p.m. Sherree Chamberlain @ The Brewhouse Stage

The perfect chance to relax and enjoy beautiful sounds from an OSU graduate.

    • 7 p.m. The Non and Cloud Collision Orchestra @ Sooner Theater Stage

The most necessary stop at the festival. An orchestra backing a local band is unheard of and The Non can pull it off flawlessly. Oh, and bring your own lasers.

    • 9:30 p.m. Dirty Projectors @ Main Stage

Hipsters unite. It’s the moment your record player and you have been waiting for. Arrive early because the streets will be packed for this year’s main headliner.
